Live up to date stat reporting for going Sexual Abuse rate (May 1 - May 31, 2020)

Thousands of Boy Scouts Have Been Victimized by Their Scoutmasters.

As the Boy Scouts of America files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, all currently filed lawsuits against the BSA will be paused. The only relief will be a claim in United States Bankruptcy Court. This will be in Delaware. Developments will move rapidly and therefore time is of the essence for those who want to file claims. In bankruptcy the court will establish a very short time window in which sexual victims must file their claims or they will be forever barred from receiving compensation.

The reason for the bankruptcy filing can be tracked to a 2010 Portland trial where a 19.9 million dollar verdict was awarded against the Boy Scouts for sexual abuse by a scout leader. The lawsuit forced the release of the B.S.A. perversion files which showed the immense scope of the Boy Scouts’ sexual abuse problem.

Victims of sexual assault experience long lasting effects on both their physical and mental health. Feelings of shame and guilt can make the victim feel weak and powerless, especially when those in power offer no protection.

When evidence points to institutions knowing of abuse and doing nothing to remove the perpetrator (be it a student, teacher, coach, or other employee), victims don’t know where to turn and sometimes choose not to report the crime.
