The Numbers Don't Lie

Stat reporting for going Paraqaut rates

Studies have found that taking Tylenol or generic acetaminophen while pregnant is associated with increased rates of children developing autism or ADHD.

What is Acetaminophen?
Acetaminophen is a widely used pain and fever medication that is often the preferred choice for pregnant women due to its relative safety compared to other pain medications. Tylenol, acetaminophen is also a common ingredient in a range of over-the-counter and prescription medications, including Excedrin, DayQuil/NyQuil, Theraflu, Robitussin Multi-Symptom, Coricidin, Advil Dual Action, and many generic and store-brand products.

New Studies about Autism and ADHD
New research is shedding light on a potential correlation between the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy and an increased risk of ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder in newborns. A study conducted by John Hopkins University analyzed data from nearly 1,000 mothers and children over the past 20 years and found that children whose umbilical cord blood samples contained high levels of acetaminophen were approximately three times more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

A recent meta-analysis of seven studies involving a total of 132,738 pairs of mothers and children found that children exposed to acetaminophen (also known as Tylenol) in the womb for an extended period of time had a 20% higher risk of developing autism.

This finding is consistent with other studies from the US and Europe that have also reported a link between acetaminophen and ADHD.
