3M’s Dual-Ended Combat Arms Earplugs™ were standard issue for soldiers between 2003 and 2015 and designed to be used as either standard earplugs or turned around to provide the user with normal hearing while at the same time protecting the eardrums from the noise of gunfire or explosions.

Dual-Ended Combat Arms Earplugs, no longer in production, were given to thousands of men and women in the armed services, without knowing their defects – putting these proud service members at risk for permanent hearing loss.

Claims indicate that 3M™ knew the ear plugs weren’t long enough to protect the eardrum and would come loose, leaving the eardrum vulnerable to damage.

The 3M™ lawsuit also includes a complaint that 3M™ and Aearo Technologies manipulated the test results of the earplugs to meet required product standards. These fraudulent activities and false claims resulted in damages that 3M™ paid to the U.S. government, but none of the award money was distributed to the device users, leaving them with no compensation for their hearing loss.
